The ICRC Mission in Seoul seeks to fill the following position:
International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Intern
ABOUT THE ICRC
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of populations affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC also endeavors to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin of the Geneva Conventions and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It directs and coordinates the international activities conducted by the Movement in armed conflicts and other situations of violence.
PURPOSE
The Intern supports the legal Department of the ICRC Mission in Seoul in the preparation and organization of events and meetings, and through legal research related to international humanitarian law, including the collection and updating of domestic legislation and other forms of State practice for the Customary International Humanitarian Law Study.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the preparation and organization of events and meetings
- Conduct legal research related to IHL
- Collect and update domestic law and other State practice for the Customary IHL Study
- Provide administrative support within the office
REQUIREMENTS
- At least two years of university-level legal education
- Good knowledge of Korean law and public international law
- Working proficiency in written and spoken English
- Good computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
WORKING HOURS
Full-time (8 hours per day, 5 days per week)
INTERNSHIP DURATION
The intern for this position is expected to work for six months, with the possibility of a six-month extension subject to performance evaluation.
Expected start date: As soon as possible.

- Understand and adhere to the ICRC Code of Conduct
- Understand the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
- Respect and observe staff regulations and security rules at all times
- Represent the ICRC in a professional manner at all times
- Develop and maintain a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers
- Perform all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC
- May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary
